As the official Australian Representative to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, The Misfits are delighted to organise the annual TikTok Young Lions Competition for Australia, sponsored by AKQA and The Trade Desk.
Entries are open to teams of two young communications professionals at the start of their career.
The 2022 categories are: Media, Digital, Film, Marketing and Design. Entries cost $249 +GST.

Entries open 30 November 2021 and close on 14 March 2022 at 5pm (AEDT). To enter, you must go to the 2022 TikTok Young Lions Competition Australia entry portal and fill out the online registration form.
By registering you are confirming that you have read and agree to the 2022 TikTok Young Lions Competition Australia Official Rules.
The Competition will run over 3 weeks. 24 May – 14 June (dates and times in Central European Time for each category are shown below). Teams will be briefed live by our charity partner and have 24 hours to complete their work. They will then submit their work via a Young Lions Entry Portal. Teams work will be judged by a LIONS jury. Teams who usually present live to a jury will still be able to do so virtually.

The creative brief can be downloaded once you are inside the portal.
The brief will provide all information needed to complete the project and details for each specific category will be outlined.
All responses to this brief must be uploaded on to our awards platform before 5pm (AEDT) on Monday 14 March 2022.
Please note: Team partners do not have to be employed at the same company.
Open to a team of two marketing professionals working for client companies that engage the services of advertising and communications companies (i.e. Intel, Coca-Cola). We do not accept advertising/media agencies or freelancers to compete in the Young Marketers competition. Original, engaging creative work starts with a strong brief. Teams must work to come up with a concise, direct and effective brief – the kind that will clearly act as a creative springboard for an agency.

Open to a team of two young professionals working in creative communications/advertising/digital agencies. Freelancers and in-house creative teams from client companies are accepted. Teams will be given 48 hours to film original footage and edit a 60-second commercial.

Open to a team of two young professionals working in creative communications/ advertising/ digital agencies. Freelancers and in-house creative teams from client companies will be accepted to compete in the Digital competition. Teams will be tasked with creating an integrated digitally led campaign and expected to use digital led executions and the technology behind them to solve the brief.

Open to a team of two media professionals working for a media agency or specific in-house media department within an agency. Freelancers and in-house media departments from client companies will be accepted to compete in the Media competition. Teams will be required to demonstrate their strategic thinking and innovative approaches to solving an important marketing challenge to drive critical business success. Each pair will be required to generate the necessary insight to develop an innovative media strategy.

Open to a team of two young professionals working in creative communications/ advertising/ digital agencies. Freelancers and in-house creative teams from client companies will be accepted to compete in the Design competition. Teams will be tasked with creating a design which will include a brand identity as well as visuals of how this identity would look in the real world.

Cannes Lions Festival Week
To help you put your best foot forward in submitting a winning entry, we’ve curated virtual workshop sessions for each of the five categories for 2022. You’ll receive a live run through of the brief from the client and have an opportunity to ask questions! We’ve also asked some top Young Lions judges and previous winners to come along to share their inside knowledge on what makes a winning entry. Register now to get the inside track.
All entries will be assessed by over 60 carefully selected industry experts.
Successful entrants are required to take part in a second round of judging for a non-profit where they will be briefed and have to present a response 24 hours later. The Film category finalists are given 48 hours and are not required to present live.
Winning teams will automatically be entered to compete in the Cannes Lions Global Competition, which is being held virtually from 16 May – 7 June 2022.
Finally, the winners will also be sent to the 2022 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France from 20 – 24 June 2022. (subject to travel restrictions)
